Motorcycle Crash Closes Lake Shore Ramp over Weekend

The Malman Law, are supporters of motorcycle riders. While in the middle of motorcycle season we want to remind all drivers to be aware of and see motorcycles. Motorcyclists have a high vulnerability to severe personal injuries if hit, including spinal cord damage, broken bones, and even death. According to the National Highway and Traffic Administration recent statistics, in 2011 there were a total of 145 motorcyclist fatalities in Illinois alone. The Start Seeing Motorcycle Foundation estimated that “the 145 motorcyclists killed account for over 15% of all motor vehicle fatalities that occurred in 2011. In comparison, motorcycle registrations comprise 3-4% of all motor vehicle registrations.” Malman Law is saddened by the large proportion of motorcyclists who are involved in fatal crashes, many of them due to other negligent drivers. Along with the physical, emotional, and mental damage that a motorcycle accident can cause, high medical bills will come along side the tragic journey that a family is already enduring.

Unfortunately, another person recently became a victim of a motorcycle crash this past weekend. A recent crash over the weekend involved a 25-year-old man who was injured in what the Chicago Tribune says to be a “possible hit-and-run crash at the 3200 block of South Lake Shore Drive.”

According to officials, the man was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County and is listed to be in critical to grave conditions.

Following the crash, the ramp was shut down according to the Illinois Department of Public Transportation.

The Illinois Department of Public Transportation warns all drivers to start seeing motorcycles. They stated in an educational safety tip brochure that “Drivers must remember to give a motorcyclist adequate space when passing. Stay in the designated lanes and do not change lanes quickly. Riders should remember to signal in advance and stay out of drivers’ blind spots.”

Motorcycle cashes take extensive research and investigation. The vehicle accident attorneys at Malman Law have successfully handled a numerous amount cases for motorcycle accident victims since 1994. If you or a loved one suffered from a recent crash this summer, it is important to seek legal representation as soon as possible. The damages from a motorcycle accident can cause a victim to suffer through years of recovery and multiple surgeries. However, an attorney can provide an accurate claim to prove another drivers negligence in order to hold them and their insurance company liable to your losses.
