While elderly abuse and neglect often occurs in nursing homes, it is also common for it to occur in the comfort of a person’s own home. Elderly abuse often occurs at home by either family, friends or caregivers. US Health News reported that to combat in home elderly abuse, there are nursing homes that are stepping up to provide short-term shelter to victims. The nursing home abuse attorneys at Malman Law are pleased to learn that nursing homes are stepping up to fight such wrongful crimes done to the elderly.
In 2005, The Hebrew Home initiated an effort to create on-site shelter called the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Center for Elderly Abuse Prevention. Since this initiation, at least 6 other homes have joined in creating their own shelters for elderly abuse.
These homes that are stepping up are also creating awareness plans of how to detect an elderly person who may be abused. In some of the homes, there are on-site attorneys who can, for example, help a victim of financial exploitation to recover from the money that was stolen from them.
Since victims of elderly abuse often stay silent in fear of further abuse and embarrassment, most of the victims have been referrals from authorities, physicians and hospital staff, and social service agents.
If you or someone you know are experiencing elderly abuse, do not hesitate to speak up because there are others who will help abused victims to begin living again with the respect and dignity that every person deserves. Our team of nursing home abuse and neglect attorneys at Malman Law are devoted to fighting for the rights of each and every client that they serve. Call our firm today if you feel that you are in a situation of abuse to learn about your rights to compensation.
