While the details are still being investigated, a 63-year old woman was fatally mauled by a pack of pit bulls while walking near her home in Southern California on Thursday, May 9th. Dog attacks are quite common in Chicago and Chicago dog bite attorneys have represented clients in a number of cases ranging from simple bites to lost limbs. Chicago personal injury lawyers are well versed in this area of law and you should always contact one right away to get the law on your side. Unfortunately for this woman, the attack was too vicious and she ultimately succumbed to her wounds.

A passing driver initially phoned police to report four dogs were attacking the woman near the small unincorporated community of Littlerock near Palmdale. When a sheriff’s deputy made it to the scene, he found only one dog attacking the woman who quickly turned his attention toward the officer in an aggressive manner. The deputy fired two shots at the animal before it ran off into the desert. The victim died in an ambulance while being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Aided by Los Angeles County animal control officers. Several detectives served a search warrant on a home in the Littlerock area and removed eight dogs, many of them pit bulls. An investigation of the home found blood on the doorstep and DNA research is being performed to match it to the victim. Media outlets interviewed several neighbors who claim they are afraid to walk by the home because they have seen the pit bulls easily hop the fence and chase vehicles and other joggers. A young man in his 20’s, who stated he owned the dogs, was taken into custody.

With the weather warming up in Chicago we are all prone to dog attacks and it is important to stay vigilant while walking outdoors. If you are aware of certain households who leave their dogs unattended it is best to avoid their home or contact your local authorities. Chicago dog bite attorneys have the power to represent you if you have been bitten or suffer injuries while escaping a dog attack.  You should always contact a personal injury attorney as soon as the attack occurs, preferably right after calling the police. Don’t take any chances if you are attacked by a dog; Chicago personal injury attorneys are waiting for your call.
