Spooky News for Halloween

Along with Halloween comes goblins, ghosts, zombies, witches and spiders. According to recent reports, spiders on Halloween may be the smallest problem some vehicle owners have this October. Toyota has recalled 885,000 vehicles worldwide due to electrical problems that could cause airbag deployment. The culprit? Most of the cases have shown that spiders were the cause.

The issue that is occurring has to do with spiders creating webs in the cars’ air-conditioning units, causing them to clog the air conditioner drainage tubes. Toyota stated that condensation and water has been leaking into the airbag control module, causing the airbag warning light to come on, and in some cases causing the airbag to deploy without warning.

There have been 35 reported warning light activations, but only three airbag deployments. There have been two minor injuries reported; however, no major accidents have occurred according to the company.

The vehicle models recalled in the United States include year 2012 and 2013 Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid, Avalon, Avalon Hybrid, and Venza vehicles.
