Teen Suffers Brain Injury Following Breast Augmentation Surgery

An 18-year-old Florida woman has suffered brain damage following a breast augmentation surgery.

The family of Linda Perez now plans to take legal action following their daughter’s brain injuries with the help of a lawyer.

Perez went under the knife in August 2013 for a breast augmentation surgery. After suffering complications, she fell into a coma that lasted for three months.

Since waking from the coma, though, Perez cannot care for herself and requires round-the-clock assistance for eating, bathing and using the restroom.

Perez’s medical malpractice lawyer said in statement that she “requires 24-hour care, [is] unable to eat, bathe, and/or go to the bathroom on her own. Additionally, she doesn’t speak or walk and has no ability to care for her young child. Her mother compares her condition to that of a helpless infant.”

The hospital’s defense team claims that Perez withheld medical information before the plastic surgery procedure, placing the blame on her. However, the plastic surgeon who worked on Perez is no longer associated with the hospital.

Common Plastic Surgery Errors

Cases like this are more common than you might think. People who undergo plastic surgeries could suffer from  life-long complications if the surgeon completes the surgery incorrectly or negligently. Plastic surgeons completed more than 286,000 breast augmentations in the United States in 2012. One percent of all breast surgeries result in error, so that means approximately 2,860 cases had some form of complication.

Doctors are also performing other cosmetic surgeries, like lip injections, face-lifts, tummy tucks and more, that can cause health complications. Following these and other operations, you may experience infection, excessive scarring and loss of feeling in the area. For cases that are more serious, you may have a blood clot, heart attack or brain injury. No matter the reason for your surgery, if it left you with health problems, a lawyer can help you fight for the compensation you need.
