Graco Product Recall – What You Need to Know

Written by Malman Law, reviewed by Steve J. Malman.

As it is breaking headlines everywhere, Chicago products liability attorneys want you to be aware of the recent recall that was announced by the National Highway Traffic Association (NHTSA). As one of the largest recalls ever, Graco has agreed to recall 3.7 million child car seats that were manufactured in recent years, and according to reports there could potentially be 1.8 million more—over a buckling issue.

The NHTSA has been investigating this issue and will continue to keep the investigation open. As of now, Graco is required to notify consumers of the recall.

The problem that is occurring with the car seat is the harness buckle becomes hard to open or becomes stuck in the latched position on car seats and booster seats manufactured from 2009 through July 2013.

To solution the problem, Graco stated that it offering “a new and improved replacement harness buckle to affected consumers at no cost.” Consumers can learn more about this replacement by calling Graco’s customer service team at 800-345-4109 or emailing consumerservices@gracobaby.com.

What to do if your child’s car seat was recalled

The use of a recalled product can put a consumer at a high safety risk. Car seats or booster seats are recalled because they do not comply with the Federal safety standards.  If your car seat was recalled, the NHTSA recommends that you take the proper stops to fix it right away or find an alternative child safety restraint.

To learn if the car seat that your child uses was recalled, visit http://www.safercar.gov/parents/GetHelp.htm. You can also call the NHTSA’s toll-free Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. When you call this line be sure to provide the following information:

  • Manufacturer’s name
  • Model Name
  • Model Number
  • Date of Manufacture
