Grandmother Dies in Chicago Hit-and-Run

A hit and run accident occurred late Friday evening on a Southwest side street, killing a 48 year old grandmother of two. According to the Chicago Tribune, the victim, Ann Sconza, was “panhandling when the car hit her and fled the scene.”

While no one has come forward to take responsibility for the Chicago hit and run, a vehicle was seen leaving the Chicago car accident scene with a broken windshield. An alert has been issued by police for a white older model vehicle, most likely a Pontiac or a Buick.

While this Chicago hit and run accident is tragic, Chicago car accidents are a common occurrence. And while it is illegal to flee the scene of an accident, hit and runs happen for many different reasons. The most common reasons a driver would commit a hit and run include:

  • Panic
  • Fear of consequences
  • Driving under the influence
  • Prior criminal record

However, if a driver commits a Chicago hit and run, they are likely in much more serious trouble than they would have been even if they were driving under the influence or other contributing factors.

If you or a loved one have been the victim of a Chicago hit and run or other Chicago car accident, you should seek legal advice from a professional. A Chicago car accident lawyer with experience with Chicago hit and run accidents is your best resource for seeking compensation for your pain and suffering while the police attempt to bring the driver to justice.
