Landslide Halts Metra Union Pacific/Northwest Line

Written by Malman Law, reviewed by Steve J. Malman.

On Wednesday, June 26th, another summer storm pushed through Chicago and the heavy rainfalls dumped between 3-6 inches of rain in some areas.  Several northern cities and towns were flooded an the Illinois State Police shut down the Edens Expressway at Pratt Avenue for three hours in the morning due to almost three feet of standing water on the roadway. Many Metra trains on the Union Pacific/Northwest Line were halted and a train in Crystal Lake near Route 31 and Edgewood road had to be stopped due to a landslide. The earth and stone platform which elevates the track became saturated and a large portion of the mound gave way. Passengers had to be evacuated but luckily a crisis was averted and no one was injured.

Hundreds of thousands of commuters use the Metra system every day. Thankfully this disaster was avoided but people do get injured on trains and may not know where to turn. Whether it is a collision or a slip and fall inside the train, Chicago train accident attorneys can help you get the compensation you deserve for your injuries. Many people who have been injured in the past did not know they could call an Illinois accident lawyer for their injuries because they believe they can only claim an injury during a major incident. The truth is many passengers have won claims for their injuries and you should always call for a free consultation. Here is a list of the possible injuries one can suffer while riding a train:

  • Broken Bones
  • Burns
  • Disfigurement
  • Brain Injury
  • Severed Limbs
  • Decapitation

Although the most dramatic injuries of decapitation and severed limbs are highly unlikely, broken bones and other injuries can occur any time. If a conductor brakes suddenly or the floor is wet due to negligence, you can get injured and may have a case.  Chicago train accident attorneys will use the law to their fullest advantage to fight for your rights and get you the compensation you deserve. You should never have to pay your own medical bills and if you have to miss work you are due additional compensation as well. Never hesitate to call an Illinois accident lawyer if you get hurt on a train – it is your right.
