October is Nursing Home Residents’ Rights Month!

October is residents’ rights month by the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care. The attorneys and staff at Malman Law celebrate this month as we fight every day for the rights of the injured and abused. It is a month to remind us all to spread awareness of nursing home abuse and its alarming reality. It is also a month to give opportunity to those who are afraid to speak up a chance to know that they have others on their side and who will fight for their rights as a person of abuse and neglect.

The Consumer Voice has an array of events throughout the month of October that allow for people to speak up against nursing home abuse, as the theme this year is, “Speak Out Against Elder Abuse!” The goal of the event is to encourage and educate elders and community members to be aware and speak up against elderly abuse. Consumer Voice additionally provides resources, activities and materials for those who are victims of abuse and or for those who are speaking out against it on their campaign site, the Consumer Voice. 

“Resident’s Voice Challenge 2013,” is among one of the activities by Consumer Voice that encourages residents to think about questions such as, “Have you ever experienced having to speak out against elder abuse?” and “Why do you think it’s important to speak out against elder abuse?” Residents and their families can submit their entries in the form of art, poetry, song, or other form of writing or videos/recordings.

The nursing home abuse attorneys at Malman Law encourage victims and their families to participate in the events this month offered by the Consumer Voice. Our firm also encourages community members to become their own advocate in the fight against nursing home abuse by spreading the awareness of the rights that the elderly have when they are being cared for by a long-term care facility.
