Three men have been charged in connection with a car chase that caused a crash on the Bishop Ford Freeway on Friday, February 21, 2014. The car chase started in Calumet City, after police spotted a car that had been reported stolen by the car’s owner. They began following the car through Dolton and Riverdale, onto the Bishop Ford, and during the chase, the driver of the stolen car hit at least two other vehicles during the chase before it crashed into two Calumet City Squad cars near 115th Street.
Three people in the stolen car were arrested, and police are looking for a fourth passenger, who ran away. Javier Aguilera, Johnathan Arevala, both 21, and Joshua Harris-White, 19, have been cited for various traffic violations in regards to the chase and crash. Aguilera, of the 9000 block of South Commercial Ave, has been charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, three counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding police, two counts of criminal damage to government property, and two counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. He faces 11 other citations, according to a statement from the Calumet City police. Arevalo and Harris-White, of the 8000 block of South Exchange Avenue and the 3000 block of East 80th Street, respectively, each face one count of criminal trespass to a vehicle. Aguilera has been held on $250,000 bond.
Two of the charges include leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, which is all too common during car crashes. If you are hit by someone who speeds off instead of stopping, try your best to get as much identifying information about the car, including the color, make and model, and perhaps most importantly, the license plate number. Seek help for any medical condition the crash caused, then contact a personal injury lawyer who concentrates on car accidents. They will be able to help you seek compensation for your injuries and property damage, as well as any other costs the crash caused you to incur.
