Boulevard Care Nursing & Rehab
Boulevard Care Nursing & Rehab has been cited for safety and staffing deficiencies that earned it a “below average” rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the past.
Fire Safety Citations
A past report found that this nursing home had 24 fire safety deficiencies — nearly seven times the national average at the time. These included the availability of escape routes for residents, a lack of a written evacuation plan and properly maintained smoke detectors. These deficiencies were reported as corrected the following month.
While accidents and emergency situations aren’t always avoidable, negligence can make the consequences more severe. Retirement home attorneys can help you determine if someone you know was hurt as the result of negligence.
History of Injury Complaints
The Medicaid report included several reports of residents suffering preventable harm. For three consecutive years, residents reported actual harm because the nursing home either wasn’t free from accident hazards and risks or failed to provide supervision to prevent avoidable accidents. Other complaints include two instances of the home failing to either hire employees without a legal history of mistreating residents or to report and investigate reports of resident abuse, neglect or mistreatment.
Negligence can be just as harmful as nursing home abuse, so it’s important to keep an eye on your loved ones and ensure that they get the treatment they deserve. Always inquire about an injury that someone you care about has sustained while in the home’s care.
Consequences of Understaffing
With a residency rate more than 50 percent higher than the national average at the time, Boulevard Care Nursing & Rehab has previously been deemed understaffed by the Medicaid report, which gave it a “much below average” staffing rating. According to the report, the time residents received with licensed nursing staff was less than half the national average of the time. The time residents received with an RN was less than a third the Illinois average, and the time allotted for physical therapy was only 1 minute per resident per day.
A nursing home with inadequate staffing may be unable to provide the kind of safety, supervision and care that senior citizens need. A nursing home negligence attorney can help you determine whether or not a loved one has received inadequate care.
