Meadowood Nursing Home
Despite an above-average staffing rating, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has given Meadowood a “below average” rating in the past. This is due in large part to the quality measures, which are ratings assigned to the nursing home based on the treatment and condition of its patients. In the past, this nursing home has been rated as “much below average” in its quality measures.
Quality of Care
Past reports have indicated that residents were receiving care markedly below the national and Illinois averages. For example, the percentage of patients reporting moderate to severe pain was higher than national and Illinois averages. The percentage of patients reporting new or worsening ulcers in this home was more than seven times the national average. Also higher than national and Illinois averages were the percentages of patients with UTIs, experiencing falls, being placed in physical restraints, and losing too much weight.
Despite these unfavorable quality measures, the Meadowood has a staffing rating of “above average,” as determined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The number of residents was, at the time of its report, well below the national and Illinois averages. This is due in part to the fact that this is a short-term rehabilitative facility rather than a long-term, live-in faciltiy. This home has a history of keeping up with national and Illinois averages in terms of the time residents receive with licensed nursing staff.
