Dialysis treatments are normally trusted to be routine and safe, only requiring a periodic visit—usually around three times a week—to kidney dialysis clinics for a few hours at a time. Unfortunately, a growing number of people are upset at the manufacturers of GranuFlo and dialysis clinics, claiming that their loved ones died of cardiac arrest caused by GranuFlo. In America, over 200 wrongful death lawsuits are pending regarding the sudden death of GranuFlo recipients. The cause of these deaths is suspected to be either the faulty manufacturing of GranuFlo or dosing errors in many cases.
Personal injury lawyers can help families of GranuFlo deaths receive compensation, proving that either the negligence of medical professionals or inadequate manufacturing was the cause.
Both GranuFlo and NaturaLyte are commonly used in kidney dialysis, but a spike in lawsuits has instigated an investigation into the product. The investigation thus far has revealed that the products’ manufacturer, Fresenius Medical Care, could be partly responsible for many wrongful deaths. The company delayed an alert to non-Fresenius clinics discussing a potential problem with GranuFlo and NaturaLyte side effects that it identified in late 2011. Fresenius found that dosing errors with both products could cause a rise in the bloodstream’s bicarbonate content, which may lead to cardiac arrest in certain patients.
125,000 patients are given dialysis treatments in non-Fresenius clinics, including DaVita clinics, but DaVita was not informed of the problems with GranuFlo until four months after the alert was released. As a result, many people are filing lawsuits claiming that both Fresenius and DaVita clinics should have or could have known about the dangers of GranuFlo, and prevented deaths as a result. Personal injury attorneys are representing many of the victims in both non-Fresenius and Fresenius lawsuits.
If you suspect the negligence of medical professionals is responsible for serious injury or wrongful death caused by GranuFlo dosing errors, personal injury lawyers can represent victims and their families for full compensation.
