Notify your supervisor

Immediately after you slip and fall in your factory, notify your supervisor. Stay on the scene and file an accident report with the appropriate personnel. Whether it is your manager, floor supervisor, company owner or another employee, you must have an accident report filled out in your presence. Keep a copy of the completed report for your records.

Look for witnesses

Witnesses can provide corroborating evidence when needed. Do not provide witnesses with any information about your accident. Remember to only ask them if they saw or heard the slip-and-fall. Only obtain their names and contact information in case you or your legal counsel ever need to get in contact with them. Remember not to contact any of these people and discuss your accident with them. Let personal injury lawyer do that, if needed. If you talk about your case, it can jeopardize your success.

Consult with legal counsel

After you slip and fall while working in a factory, you need to obtain the services of a Chicago personal injury lawyer as soon as possible. Consulting with legal counsel can be one of the best decisions you make to protect yourself. Lawyers will secure expert testimony, investigate the accident scene, and thoroughly evaluate all aspects of your injury case. Find a personal injury lawyer you feel comfortable working with. These professionals will understand what, if any, compensation you may be entitled to. This can include receiving compensation for damages you incur such as time missed from work, medical bills, pain and suffering, cost of rehabilitation, and prescription drug expenses.

Take a number of pictures

To protect yourself, you must take pictures of the surrounding area where your slip-and-fall accident occurred. Pictures make for great documentation and proof of any accident. Take pictures of any warning signs near or in the area. Look for any floor covering safety items such as rugs and mats. Take pictures of these. If there are no safety items in place, take a picture of this to show noncompliance with workplace safety laws. Remember to take pictures of the floor where you were working when the accident happened. Pictures will show what condition the surface area was in at the time of injury. Take pictures of your injury after the fall. Also take pictures of your shoes and clothing immediately after your accident. Keep all these pictures in a safe place.

Do not wash your clothing

Your clothing is evidence of your factory slip-and-fall. Keep your worn clothing in a safe place, preferably a sealed plastic bag. Do not wash or alter it. Also do not wear your shoes again.

Go seek medical treatment

If your factory slip-and-fall accident results in pain of any kind, it is only natural to go seek medical treatment. Medical professionals can diagnose and treat your injury, recommend treatments and help you become aware of how the injury can affect your life. Depending upon the severity of your injury, you may want to go to your nearest emergency room or your primary care provider. Keep records of this visit. Make one copy for yourself and another copy for your Chicago personal injury lawyer.

Suffering a slip-and-fall injury in the factory workplace is not to be taken lightly. Protecting yourself can provide peace of mind, both financially and physically.
